Gill Hughes
Gill Hughes has been passionate about books and storytelling for as long as she can remember. Now based in the stunning Bay of Islands, she brings over 25 years of experience as a communications specialist and publicist in the arts, publishing, and not-for-profit sectors. Her career began in 2002 in publishing, where she was fortunate to promote and tour with renowned international authors like Michael Palin, Ian Rankin, Margaret Atwood, and Anthony Bourdain—experiences that deepened her love for the written word and the stories behind it.
In 2008, Gill founded Hughes PR, created out of a desire to help creative voices find their audience and shine. Since then, she’s worked closely with publishers, self-published authors, artists, and arts organisations—including Massey University Press, Oratia Books, and National Poetry Day—building lasting relationships grounded in trust and collaboration. Whether she’s curating an event line-up, interviewing authors, or crafting tailored campaigns, Gill marries her strategic expertise with a genuine dedication to bringing creative projects to life.
Living in one of Aotearoa’s most beautiful regions inspires her every day to connect stories, people, and communities through clear, heartfelt communication. At Hughes PR, it’s not just about publicity—it’s about celebrating the power of storytelling to spark meaningful connections.
